Frequently Asked Questions
Is my portfolio data safe and private?
Yes, all your portfolio data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. Your holdings, buy prices, and personal investment data are never sent to our servers or any third party. If you clear your browser data, your portfolio will be reset, so consider noting your positions elsewhere as a backup.
How are stock prices updated in the portfolio tracker?
Live stock prices are fetched from market data APIs each time you load the portfolio page. Prices reflect the most recent trading data available, with a slight delay during market hours. The tracker automatically fetches prices for all unique tickers in your portfolio on page load.
Can I export my portfolio data?
Currently the portfolio tracker does not have a built-in export feature. Since your data is stored in localStorage, you can manually record your positions. We recommend keeping a separate record of your holdings as a backup in case you clear your browser data or switch devices.
How is profit and loss (P&L) calculated?
P&L is calculated as (current price - buy price) x number of shares for each holding. The percentage return is (current price - buy price) / buy price x 100. The total portfolio P&L sums up the gains and losses across all holdings, giving you an overall view of your investment performance.
Does the portfolio tracker account for dividends?
The current version tracks price-based returns only and does not automatically factor in dividend payments. Your actual total return may be higher than shown if your holdings pay dividends. You can manually adjust your cost basis to account for received dividends if desired.
